Secretary of State John Kerry deployed Ambassador Kenneth Merten to Haiti last night, for a meeting with outgoing President Martelly – to ensure his safe departure is guaranteed Sunday Feb 7th.
As a precautionary measure, SOUTHCOM has ordered the mobilization of a Strategic Amphibious Platoon, of the United States Marine Corp, based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
A unit of this type is made up of 300 officers and men.
