The International Community is always accusing Haiti of being a nation without Law, and, when we try to apply it, outsiders scream foul.
Reed Brody, of Human Rights Watch, is one of these. He is on a witch hunt and will lead a lynch mob against Duvalier, while ignoring the real potential charges against Jean-Bertrand Aristide, Rene Preval, and many of their associates.
Why is this?
Someone should get him on TV and ask him why he is not pursuing Aristide and Preval. He should be forced to face these questions in public. When he answers, in the predictable way, he should be thrown out of the country – PUBLICLY!!! DEMAND HE ACT EQUALLY AGAINST THE VIOLATORS OF HUMAN RIGHTS – ARISTIDE AND PREVAL INCLUDED!!
And, must also view the motivation behind those who have placed complaints against Duvalier. Their backgrounds must be understood, to understand the game.
For example Bobby Duval spent 17 months in prison.
This is correct.
Why was he in prison?
Seems as though he was part of a bomb plot aimed at killing President Jean-Claude Duvalier. The bomb might have killed Duvalier, plus a lot of innocent people.
He would be facing life in prison, had he tried this in the United States. The guy why tried to assassinate Reagan, in 1981, is still locked up.
Had he done this under the Aristide Presidency, he would be dead.
Haiti’s laws must be obeyed.
The media must also obey the laws or face charges under the Code Penal which contains sections to deal with the criminally defamatory lies projected daily by the likes of Liliane Pierre-Paul. Many recall the times when – as Aristide accelerated – sent people to burn the houses of many. She has never stopped. She must be stopped, along with other criminals in Haiti’s media.
It is time to draw a line in the and declare that Haiti’s laws must be respected by everyone, Haitians, foreigners and the International Community at large.
It is an embarrassment for Haiti to see Jean-Claude Duvalier even being mentioned, in our court system, for something that is Statute Barred. Of course, the judge involved went to school with Aristide, is a Lavalas supporter and gained many advantages under Exume when he was Minister of Justice, that famous time when Exume failed to protect Mireille Durocher-Bertin.
It is 11:53 February 28, 2013 and Duvalier asked that the hearing be held in Camera – in private, and the judge has refused. However, the judge was willing to give Aristide “room service” when Aristide was called to the Parquet…. Visiting Aristide at home, like a pizza delivery boy.
Duvalier should not be in court.
No matter what you are, Pro-Duvalier, anti-Duvalier, pro or anti-Aristide/Preval…. Everyone should recognize the danger of these proceedings, proceedings that effectively ignore and trample the basic laws of Haiti.
