There is a story about an American group that had an assembly industry in Leogane.
When they flew into Haiti for a visit to their factory they noticed a lot of starving dogs around their property.
On the next visit they brought big bags of dog food for them.
On the following visit they saw the dogs were still in bad shape. The Haitians had eaten the dry dog bisquits.
The Americans had noticed that the dogs were hungry but failed to notice their Haitian employees.
So it is with the Martelly/Lamothe government. They are too busy flying off for photo opportunities, in foreign lands. And their focus is on overpasses on Delmas and $5,000,000 Carnivals.
Time for a reality check.
The peasants have been facing disastrous conditions, for many months, but have no way to communicate their despair to a disconnected government. Unlike America they cannot complain to their Deputies/ Senators who rarely return to their constituencies after elections.
President Martelly has experienced the exhilaration of a victorious visit to Washington.
All of the benefits will be lost if his government is faced with FOOD RIOTS as the fire of desperation is fueled by Haiti’s opposition.
A very good observation.
Unfortunately, seeds supplies are usually limited because the producers take orders months in advance, and then produce to meet these orders.
There are some excess seed potatoes in Idaho that could be shipped.
We must avoid the MONSANTO trap that will see them supply hybrid seeds that do not allow the harvesting of seeds for the next planting.
This seed situation could be the worst crisis to face the Martelly government and, as you have said, should have been predicted. Unfortunately, naming a guy to be Minister of Agriculture, even though he may know something about the technicalities, does not make him a coordinator for the challenges.
Stupidity and refusal to recognize reality, coupled with corruption and nepotism will see this disaster accelerate and expand.
If I were the opposition I would focus on this challenge, plus the education fiasco created by missing funds from the Primature.
My family now faces their hungers and no waters for there terre.
Keep blablabla while the goverment without the main aid promised to bring that disaster too a more relief environment is doing his best.when r u going to stop shooting at your rival cause u see no other way to get back to what u did that brought the mother nation to 50 years of corruption and catastrophe?
We are not shooting at our government. We are warning them of a situation which, if recognized and solved now, will make heroes of Martelly and Lamothe.
If allowed to develop it could ruin all the progress to date.
No excuses for the corruption of Aristide/preval/Latortue. We want Martelly to succeed.
