Patient has filed suit against Blue Shield over two-tier pricing

[Chamberlin, Bob — B582060003Z.1 LOS ANGELES, CA – APRIL 25, 2012: Jo Ann Snyder, a 57-year-old hair salon manager in Seal Beach, on APRIL 25, 2012. She is suing Blue Shield of California in a potential class-action suit that accuses the nonprofit insurer of keeping medical prices secret and allowing hospitals and doctors to overcharge consumers with high deductible plans. The suit alleges that Blue Shield fails to recommend lower cost providers in its network to win other concessions from big hospitals such as Long Beach Memorial, which charged Snyder $2,300 for a CT scan. Liberty Imaging, another Blue Shield provider nearby, charged $660 for the same test. She went back to work at Studio One hair salon in Seal beach to help pay her premiums.
