For Karen Civil, 2017 is a year of giving. The LA-based personality, author and entrepreneur used her influence to do some good at House Of Hope Orphanage in Titanyen, Haiti. On Monday (April 10), Civil—who is of Haitian parentage—opened her Live Civil Computer Lab, done in partnership with The Jack Brewer Foundation, and donated 20 computers to the children. In addition, Omar Johnson, former VP of Marketing at Beats by Dre, came along to donate a set of headphones to accompany each computer, and Vans gave a new pair of shoes to each of the students.

“Each year I return to Haiti, I hope that whatever I bring, contributes to the betterment of these students for the long term,” Karen said in a statement. “In 2017, all students must have access to computers and other updated technology. It impacts the speed in which they can complete their homework, how quickly they can access information online, and improve their typing and reading skills. I want them to be given the same opportunity other educated youth are given in different countries. I’m grateful to Jack Brewer for helping make this lab come to life.”

Her Live Civil philanthropy imprint has been up and running since 2014, and since its inception, Civil has worked with various notable names to erect a Live Civil playground in Haiti, as well as partner with Lil Wayne and boxer Andre Berto to give 500 Haitiain students books provided by Scholastic Corporation and Trukfit clothing.
