Haiti’s entire banking system is an indictable offense. Unfortunately, its units exert so much pressure on all but the poorest levels of our society that any wronging – no matter how gross or extreme – is difficult, if not impossible to pursue.

And, many in the system’s upper levels use the funds as personal piggy banks, with no chance of prosecution. No one rally knows how much of the “deposited funding” is really there.
So long as money comes out of the tap, at the bottom of the opaque container, holding the funds, no one worries. A forensic audit would put most bank officials in jail, were they operating in a real nation’s banking system.
A “run of the system” generated by a depositors’ fear, would soon see the banks in real trouble – almost anywhere but Haiti.
There is no real responsibility or reporting requirements, to shareholders or account holders. The governments, since Duvalier’s Governor Andre, have been criminal amateurs.
Not offering it as a criticism, but Francois Duvalier would have taken immediate, forceful, meaningful and permanent action had any of this characters flaws occured during his term in office. Because of his approach, we really had a relatively crime-free society.
Since Duvalier, Governors have used their positions to steal fortunes, SOCABANK was created with funds allegedly siphoned off by Bonivert Claude.
Governor Castel is said to have become a billionaire as a result of his control of Haitian finances. Much of the cash went into the purchase of real estate, if certain authoritative sources are to be believed..
And now, the Unconstitutional Privert used his piracy of the Presidency to place a number of Lavalas activists in key position as an ongoing threat to the Jovenel Moise government.

Money cannot disappear in the banking system.
