PORTLAND – People lined up all the way around the block Friday for the Haitian Project Garage Sale at Northeast Portland’s Madeleine Parish and School.

It’s the 13th year the Madeleine has held the fundraiser, which supports a special boarding school for about 350 kids in Haiti. Last year the sale raised $26,000.

Furniture, clothes and knick-knacks covered just about every inch of the school and the massive number of customers made it look like a “Black Friday” sale.

Former board member Evelyn Couser visited the school with her husband Don and she feels very passionate about giving back.

“Well if you’ve been to Haiti, you’ve seen the conditions, met the kids, know what the needs are, you feel so humbled by that experience that you have to come back and do whatever you can to help others,” she said.

The sale continues Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday is half price day.
