Haiti - Justice : Sale of assets of the Haitel

Following the sequestration of the properties of the Haitel, ordered by the court of referred in order to protect the interests of the State, followed by a final judgment on the bankruptcy of the former company, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) will soon proceed to the sale of assets of the former phone company to pay the liabilities of the company.

The first sale, which will be carried out in the study and by the notary Jean Henry Céant, will concern four properties lands and buildings with a total value estimated at more than 5 million U.S. dollars.

Recall that Haitel was insolvent and that according the Commercial Code, was in bankruptcy. The company owed to several state institutions, including the CONATEL, the BRH, the BNC and other institutions, more than $80 million [including nearly 40% to the Haitian government in taxes.]

Jean-Marie Guillaume, Director General of the National Council of Telecommunications (CONATEL) indicated that the frequencies used by the Haitel were recovered and that tenders will soon be launched to facilitate the entry on the Haitian market, of other telecommunications companies.
