First Lady Sophia Martelly

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) – First Lady Sophia Martelly delivered a thought for the mentally ill on October 10, World Mental Health Day. Mrs. Martelly said she wished to renew her commitment to those suffering from mental health and their families as they face serious difficulties.

“I am aware of the problems faced by this sector deserves attention. We have worked to improve the situation of the mentally ill. Together with the Secretary of State for Public Security, we have concrete results.”

A statement from the First Lady made the public aware of a call center “177” with the slogan “Tet Poze, Kè Poze” that is to be used to have authorities make contact with the mentally ill, violent and/or naked in the streets of Port-au-Prince. Since the program was established, fifty (50) persons were recovered from the perimeter of the Toussaint L’Overture International Airport. The majority of interventions were made in Port-au-Prince. Two (2) cases were reported in Petit-Goave.

The most striking case was that of a person in their 70s who was wanted by his family in Cap-Haitien and was eventually found in Port-au-Prince, thanks to the program.

Patients are initially taken to the clinic on Oswald Durand street to be evaluated. Depending on their condition, they are then transferred to Beudet. An awareness campaign is continuing to be conducted among the population in order to avoid cases of lynching, as was the case of an elderly alzheimer victim who was accused of being a “Lougawou.”

The National Palace says, the First Lady will take all necessary measures, alongside the President of the Republic, to significantly reduce the presence of people with mental disabilities in the streets. She invites citizens to continue to call for free on any phone 177 to report the presence of a mental illness in their immediate environment.

COMMENT: HAITIAN-TRUTH.ORG

More smoke-and-mirrors from Queen Sophia as she tries to emulate Evita Peron. The only thing the two have in common is Queen Sophia’s greed.

Martelly, and his team are stealing millions while government employees are forced to threaten media appearances to get their back wages paid.

The Ministry of Interior is one of the worst offenders as employees fight for wages.

Other ministries are in the same situation.

And all the wile, King Michel, Queen Sophia, Crown Prince Olivier and their band of bandits rape the nation’s treasury while the world community sits there like toads!

Queen Sophia, like many other things Mental Health begins at home.
