The Aristide candidacy is not a realistic one and is just another effort, on the part of a few Lavalas fanatics, to press Aristide’s name forward as a thermometer as to whether or not he retains any popularity.

Aristide is a realist and recognizes the fact that fewer than 100 people greeted him, upon his return to Haiti, and fewer marched in his manifestations – even though hundreds of thousands were spent to generate crowds.

He is not a fool and will never allow a situation in which his true lack of popularity is put to an actual, supervised vote.

Better to send others and remain behind the scene, like a spider in its web.

  1. You are saying that fewer than 100 hundred people greeted him, it’s either you did not watch the footage or you can’t count. More than 1,000 people went to greet him

    Actually, I can count. I have the video, with a single picture taken from the video and I have counted the people at the airport, when Aristide arrived.

    As a matter of interest, I was there when he arrived and followed his journey to Tabarre, where crowds were paid by Preval and got out of hand, entering Aristide’s house to steal the furniture, all of the food from the tables and personal belongings, of Aristide’s guests, including Danny Glover.

    Several hundred greeted Aristide, at the airport. I don’t count the hundred, or so airport workers, who would have been there in any case.

    And I do not count the 100, or so journalists, who were there.

    Less than 100 Aristide supporters greeted him, even though the time and date of his arrival was known, days in advance.

    I was also there when Duvalier arrived, unannounced. Something over 2000 people mobbed the airport. A similar number mobbed the Hotel Karibe.

    There must be some sort of lesson here.

    The fact that Duvalier travels the countryside, with no security, while Aristide remains holed up at Tabarre, with dozens of security people, also gives us a lesson as to who is popular and who is not.

    More than Aristide’s 100 people greeted Duvalier’s sister, Simone, this week, when she flew into Haiti. Another lesson for those who pay attention.
