The leading candidate in the Haitian presidential race is casting doubt on the ethics of her closest rival and warning the population to expect fraud and dirty tricks in Sunday’s election.

Mirlande Manigat, the 70-year-old wife of former president Leslie Manigat, told QMI Agency that the ruling Unity Party should be watched closely.

“I’m sure there will be some (underhanded tactics),” she said. “I’m sure and I’m denouncing them ahead of time.”

Public opinion polls have Manigat leading with 31% support. Jude Celestin, who is backed by outgoing president Rene Preval, was at 20.1% with former singer Michel (Sweet Micky) Martelly at 14%.

EDITOR: IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT MANIGAT MADE A DEAL WITH PREVAL – RECEIVING SEVERAL MILLION DOLLARS – IN ORDER TO FIX ELECTION, WITH HER WINNING RUN-OFF. NOW PREVAL/CELESTIN DECIDED ON NO RUN-OFF AND MANIGAT FEELS BETRAYED. MANIAGT IS NOT, AND NEVER WAS A FRONT-RUNNER. SHE WAS A FRONT-RUNNER IN FALSE POLLS PUBLISHED BY BUSINESS COMMUNITY IN EFFORT TO CONTROL PRESIDENCY.

BUT, AS THEY SAY IN SHOW BUSINESS…”IT ISN’T OVER UNTIL THE FAT LADY SINGS…”    DO WE ACCEPT MANIGAT’S COMPLAINTS ABOUT FRAUD AS HER SONG??.

The tight race is leading to aggressive – and sometimes violent – meetings between rival camps.

On Friday, candidate Michel Martelly was the target of an ambush that killed one and wounded a number of others in the southern town of Cayes.

A spokeswoman for his campaign said people shot at the crowd surrounding the politicians with automatic weapons.

Jean-Francois Bezina, with the U.N. mission in Haiti, confirmed there had been an incident in Cayes.

Celestin had his own brush with danger earlier this week when he was attacked by a group of armed men. He escaped unharmed.

The elections are taking place against the backdrop of a worsening cholera epidemic and major organizational challenges in the wake of the Jan. 12 earthquake that killed over 200,000 people.

Since Oct. 20, cholera has killed at least 1,600 Haitians and more than 25,240 have been hospitalized, according to Haiti’s health ministry.

COMMENT: HAITIAN-TRUTH.ORG

Mirlande Manigat is a disgusting, and embarrassing piece of garbage in an already polluted cesspool.

What little integrity, or self-respect she of her husband Lesly, possessed has gone down the toilet as she prostitutes herself to gain the presidency.

Preval sucked her and   used her until she was not required, than made his move to install  Celestin.

Manigat was an insider in the effort to fix the election. She is only complaining because she has now been left out. She sold her integrity for “30 pieces of silver…”  and now realizes she is the dupe.

Manigat should not cry foul.

She is simply another whore who has been paid and then kicked out of bed.

The Haitian community recognizes her for what she is.
