Haiti: Cholera figures (as of 30 June 2017) – Added COMMENTARY By Haitian-Truth

The number of suspected cases of cholera continued to decline at the national level in June 2017. The effective coordination of the various actors has made it possible to control all the new outbreaks of the epidemic while continuing to reduce the level of transmission of the disease in the most persistent areas. Community activities and institutional care were carried out by 8 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) – WASH and Health sectors – with technical and financial support from UNICEF and PAHO / WHO. In support of the 12 Rapid Response Teams (EMIRA) of the MSPP, 58 NGO teams are strengthening the implementation of cordon sanitaire and community prevention activities.

A special effort has been made by PAHO / WHO to improve the alert response and quality of care through 4 specialized field teams deployed throughout the country, but the National Plan for the Elimination of Cholera (PNEC) remains under funded, particularly the component regarding integration and upgrading of all structures.

If this situation persists, the risk is that rapid response teams will be progressively reduced until the end of 2017, with potentially unfortunate consequences for the sustained reduction in the number of suspected cases of cholera and a probable increase in mortality related to this disease.

Rapid response teams, armed with computers can solve the cholera threat with a few strokes on the keyboard.

At one point we were at 20,000 fatalities, and accelerating.

We are now well below that point but still accelerating.

Mathematics counts for nothing when the System wants to promote new, less expensive propaganda.

  1. People are still dying only they die from ACUTE DIARRHEA instea of CHOLERA.

    Simple bookkeeping.

Lives lost do not matter in the big game.

Haiti – Politics : Meeting of the High-Level Committee for the Elimination of Cholera
The High Level Committee for the Elimination of Cholera in Haiti, co-chaired by Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant and Special Representative of UN Secretary-General Sandra Honoré, met with the Prime Minister to discuss the situation of cholera in Haiti.

The members of the Committee noted the reduction in the number of cases and deaths in 2017 and the means implemented before reaffirming their common vision, according to the National Plan for the Elimination of Cholera, to eliminate the disease and its transmission into Haiti.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of long-term investment in the water and sanitation sectors as fundamental bases for the prevention of water-borne diseases. He recalled that the medium- and long-term response, with the support of the United Nations and donor partners “remained essential to consolidate the achievements…”

Marie Gréta Roy Clément, the Minister of Health and Sandra Honoré also noted the improvement in recent months of case control “The work of mobile rapid response teams has helped to better control the disease and decrease its impact,” stressed Minister Clément.

The members of the Committee, including representatives of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO), confirmed the success achieved in immunization http://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19050-haiti-health-1-million-vaccines-against-cholera-arrived-in-the-country.html particularly in the Greater South and reaffirmed the need to continue investment in infrastructure, water and sanitation in parallel with maintaining rapid response capacities, in order to eliminate the eventual transmission of disease http://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21415-haiti-health-optimism-at-ministry-that-talks-about-elimination-of-cholera-by-the-end-of-2018.html

In conclusion, Prime Minister Lafontant stressed “the need to undertake all the steps necessary to bring together, within a reasonable period of time, the $400 million fund http://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20204-haiti-cholera-funding-failure-for-the-$400m-un-funds.html launched by the United Nations for the implementation of the new approach of the United Nations in support of the efforts of the Haitian Government in the eradication of the disease.”

  3. Why don’t we accept reality!

There will never be any $400,000,000.

And, anything we do get should be dedicated to an effort to stamp out he disease, not to pay individuals who were sick, or lost family members.

    That is past history.

Any money should be spent on the future.
