Former Rebel Guy Philippe Rallies Soldiers in the Central Plateau

HINCHE, Haiti (defend.ht) – Former Rebel Guy Philippe has traveled from a rally in the North to one in the Central Plateau and over the weekend joined a group of remobilized soldiers of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAdH) in the town of Hinche.

According to Vision 2000 the rally in Hinche would have brought men with heavy arms together. Philippe shared their sentiments saying that the Constitution of Haiti requires that the Republic have an army.

The former leader of the 2004 coup d’etat against former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide is expect to travel to the South and South East Departments in the coming days. It should be mentioned in the past week the former rebel has sought to make an amends with Aristide defending him from rumors of extradition.

Former soldiers of the FAdH seeking pensions as well as young people, both groups seeking occupations in the Haitian army began remobilizing a few months after the inauguration of President Michel Martelly – based on campaign promises made to reinstitute the force.

President Martelly established a commission on November 18, 2011 to study the possibilities and methods for establishing a new army in Haiti. The Minister of the Interior and National Defense, Thierry Mayard-Paul has required that the former soldiers stand down and await formal orders to remobilize.
