Five Ministers Called before the Senate-Added COMMENTARY By Haitian-Truth

State of Emergency, President Michel Martelly, PM and delegation return from 12 days abroad.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) – Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe and 4 other ministers will appear before the Senate on Tuesday to explain relief activities accomplished since declaring Haiti in a state of emergency in October; after Hurricane Sandy passed through Jamaica and Cuba. Senator Jeanty says the situation in the country is like the storm passed yesterday.

No information on relief has been reported since the declaration and the Martelly/Lamothe administration decided to renew the status for another month, which worries parliamentarians because the state of emergency status allows the administration to bypass provisions put in place to combat corruption.

Accordingly, the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation who is also Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, and the Ministers of Economy and Finance, Public Works, Transportation and Communication, the Evbironment, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development are to be convened on Tuesday.

The Martelly/Lamothe administration extended a “state of emergency” status that was established 6 days after the passage of Hurricane Sandy through Jamaica and Cuba. The one-month long emergency status was again renewed in December for a second month.

But in the first month of Haitian emergency status, both President Michel Martelly and Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, spent 21 of 30-some days outside of Haiti with little to report on emergency relief. The days continue to climb as people in flooded zones since the storm have not seen any relief.

This is a good one.
It was published early, and made people think the demand for Lamothe’s presence was for Tuesday the 11th. The article was removed and now is back. I guess they want Lamothe on the 18th.

Perhaps he will not show up.
