PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad — Chilean President Michelle Bachelet says a group of South American nations has committed to providing $100 million in aid for earthquake-ravaged Haiti.

She says the money from the 12-member Union of South American Nations is meant to help Haitian President Rene Preval get his government going in the aftermath of the Jan. 12 quake.

At a news conference late Tuesday in Trinidad’s capital, Bachelet told reporters that Unasur will provide nearly half of the aid in about three weeks.

Bachelet made the brief comments during a stopover in Trinidad after a conference of 32 Latin American and Caribbean countries in Mexico where the Haiti aid was agreed upon.

This will simply mean Preval has another source from which to steal. The Haitian people will gain no benefit from this. After all, immediately after the quake Preval gave Dimitri Vorbe a contract to buy 200,000 food packages for $20.00US each. He went to the Dominican Republic and bought them for $2.00. They were time-expired but the dates were easily changed. $36,000,000 for Preval to split with inner circle.

Now he has named his wife’s brother-in-law a czar of the new housing programs. More money to steal.

When will the donor show some interest in the well-being of 9,000,000 Haitians – 300,000 already declared dead?

The situation is bizarre!

  1. There is an old Indian saying to the effect…

The giver needs the beggar…more than the beggar needs the giver.

This seems to be the case with Haiti.

Foreign nations are in a rush to feel good, by dumping millions into Preval’s lap without any regard as to how these millions will be applied. By doing so, the donor is complicit in Preval’s crimes while the Haitian masses continue to starve and die because of this stupidity.

Money sent into Preval’s care is a waste.

Haiti would be no better off…no worse off…with or without it.

Only Preval and his bank benefits.

We need a forensic audit with follow up criminal charges.
