This afternoon a large, unruly crowd of angry Haitians gathered spontaneously, and I say spontaneously since this is one of the few actual spontaneous demonstrations I have ever witnessed in Haiti.
Most are paid for by someone. The size reflects the budget.
Walking through the crowd we discovered that there is a great deal of bad-feelings against the Martelly government for its recent moves that show the Martelly has no interest in the population’s well-being. The cost of living has skyrocketed. With the departure of Prime Minister Lamothe, all of his projects and programs were cancelled, including those that fed tens of thousands each day.
The people’s support of Martelly is in rapid decline.
Those in front of the CEP mostly voiced their anger at the loss of Prime Minister Lamothe and President Martelly’s obvious blocking of the ex-Prime Minister’s efforts to file papers supporting a run for the presidency.
Some people repeated President Martelly’s statements to the effect that he did not want Lamothe as a candidate and would block him in any way possible.
This is not what the people expected of a free-and-fair election.
Martelly is not supposed to select the candidates for them.
It would seem that there will be growing unrest as Martelly becomes more dictatorial in his effort to “select” he president who follows him.
Don’t be surprised if Martelly is removed, to be replaced by a Transitional Government to properly coordinate the elections that Martelly is set upon blocking.
If Martelly was smart, he would authorize all applications, from all candidates, for the planned elections.
We are not optimistic.

We have just witnessed a blatant effort of President Martelly to block ex-Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe’s candidacy in the presedential ballot.
He has told Lamothe that he doesn’t want him on the ballot and doesn’t want him running for the Presidency.
This flies in the face of promised free-and-fair elections.
Martelly has stated his upset at the fact Lamothe had the guts to arrest drug-dealer/kidnapper La Familia – a personal friend of President Martelly who didn’t have the common sense to curtail his activities. Instead, he believed he was fire-proof with Martelly in the Palace.
I suppose he was right. Martelly had him released and had the court return all of his property, including the ransom paid by his victims, even as these victims watched – stunned – in court.
Time for Martelly to go.
Where are the Americans when you need them??

Michel Martelly and Laurent Lamothe were a great team. Unfortunately, Martelly’s ego could not stand someone competent beside him and switched for Evans Paul, one of my relatives. He is an embarrassment.

I AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED IN MARTELLY . HE GOT CORRUPT BY POWER . LAMOTHE DID ALL THE WORKS AND HE DESERVES THE CREDITS. THE PEOPLE ARE NOT IDIOTS, THEY KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON . LAMOTHE HAD PROVEN HE IS A GREAT GUY. LET LAMOTHE BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT !
Where’s is the DEA, the U.S state department motto war on drugs, Canada the European Union? Do they all have a symbiotic relationship with the Narco State of Haiti? Sad sad sad, the more things change the more they remains the same. In time evil always shows its true form.
