The Antoine-Simon Airport expansion project is part of the government’s efforts to ramp up infrastructure development in Haiti’s South department. The expanded airport will feature new 3,000-metre runway strip and a new terminal.
The airport project is estimated to cost $26.6 million, and will span over a period of two years. Dominican firm Estrella is undertaking the project.
The project follows another planned airport project on the island of Ile a Vache, which was aimed at boosting tourism development in Haiti.
