A recent gathering of 1000 teachers, and others, at Marche Dessalines, generated some interesting information. This cross-section of Haitian society voiced its concern about Preval’s plan to steal the elections. After some discussion, one of the group stood up to ask several questions.
He asked how many people there were Lavalas.
About one-third raised their hands.
He asked how many had voted for Preval in the 2006 election.
Almost 95 percent raised their hands.
He then asked who would vote against Preval – now.
Everyone raised their hands.
This was better than the complex surveys people attempt.
A cross-section of 1000 teachers, from around the country, had almost 100 percent against the Preval team.
And yet, Preval is attempting to steal the election and has a very good chance of doing so because of international indifference to reality.
